Wearing clothes that old people may well have died in, and a bowl-cut the Beatles would be proud of, Daughter tells tales of ghosts, drowning lovers and setting fire to her insides for fun. Daughter’s haunting voice and delicate guitar playing make her live performances spell-binding and often difficult to breathe. She talks about unrequited love, lost hope and death… in the prettiest way imaginable.
Daughter is the musical work of Elena Tonra. Have a listen to her music, would you call her a singer/songwriter or indie folk? It's a tough call but I'm sure we can both agree that's bloody good. Growing up in a qiuet part of London in the 90's she spent her days listening to her parent’s vinyl collections and older brother’s rock CDs. She later discovered the beauty of acoustic and folk inspired music and started to create stories and poems which formed the skeletons of her songs. _Alessi's Ark is a wonderful folky singer/songwriter. I had (and still have I suspose) a ticket to see her playing a gig with George Pringle in Manchester in early 2009 around the time Notes from the Treehouse came out. Dream line-up! Sadly I couldn't go due to a load of sudden unforseen drama but if I'd gone it probably would have been the best gig (for me) of that whole year!
If you 'like' her facebook page via this link you can download her lovely cover of 'Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want' by The Smiths. You won't be disappointed. Not just one free track, but thirteen!! A full free album from this outstanding Worcester singer/songwriter. This is a brilliant and sadly over-looked album that's been expertly crafted from the subtle open that builds to the nice full chorus of 'Harder Roads to Come' to the simple arrangement of 'Almighty Conscience', this album is flawless. I insist that you add it to your library right now. I'm a big Emmy the Great fan so it's a pleasure to be able to share some of her music with people who may not already be familiar her. Emmy's known for her witty and really well written lyrics. That being said, this blatantly isn't the best example, (you'd be better off clicking here) but it is free after all. |
Making your music folder better, one song at a time.
_Pretty much everyday I seem to find some amazing exclusive tracks that
some awesome artists are giving away for free as a special one off
promotion. Today, it occured to me that instead of just downloading
them, maybe reposting them on facebook if they're special enough/someone I know and
then moving on, I should start a little music blog on here. Even if it
doesn't last forever, it's still a free song for you each day that it
does! I'd say the character of this blog is mostly electropop and singer/songwriter but I've got plans for mathcore, post-rock and glitch-hop. A lot of these tracks have a download limit of 100 so get in there on the quick. I'd also point out that a lot of the songs will need renaming once you've downloaded them so I'd do them one at a time. Archives
